Approximately 50 cars have been smeared with what seems to be human blood in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, as reported by authorities.
Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they reported in a release.
Officers report they were alerted late on Wednesday night, when a man noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a banned symbol, they stated.
Officers then found numerous other marked automobiles and house walls in the nearby vicinity.
Swastikas are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state preliminary tests indicate the fluid was probably blood from a person.
"Currently there is no clue as to where it came from; authorities are currently not cognizant of any harm in association with the event," they commented.
City officials stated they were working "to solve the incident" and have asked to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative said the attack left him stunned and had to be resolved promptly.
"This incident affects the very heart of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist terrorist attack five years ago," he stated on social media, referring to the killing of nine people by a assailant targeting people of immigrant origin in February 2020.
